A Rose for All: Educator and ski guide Brennan Lagasse shows us one of his favorite spots on Lake Tahoe.
The world of skiing is hard to access. It’s expensive, it’s crowded, it’s hard to get to. But what if there were ways to access snow-covered mountains that were available to everyone? Welcome to Mount Rose, a high-elevation pass on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe that’s a mecca for backcountry skiing, Nordic skiing, and affordable learn-to-ski slopes at Mount Rose Ski Area.
In this second episode of “Peaks and Passages,” season two, Flylow athlete, educator, and guide Brennan Lagasse takes us to one of his favorite zones around Tahoe. Lagasse, who’s an assistant professor in sustainability education at the University of Nevada Reno, at Lake Tahoe, has a unique take on how public lands can benefit all of us and what can we do to continue to protect this landscape and this lifestyle and make it available for all.
“Here in Tahoe we have issues like many mountain communities across the American West: overdevelopment, lack of affordable housing, impacts because of climate,” Lagasse says. “But we have these special areas that consistently remind us of how important it is to advocate for our backyard and make sure that backyard is welcoming and available for people to experience.”
