And why I’m excited for Flylow’s New Spring/Summer 2026 Collection, which is out now.
I’m in the midst of tossing clothes into a tote bag for a weeklong van camping trip. Because it’s spring and because I love a good multi-sport adventure (who doesn’t, right?), this trip involves skiing, mountain biking, and surfing. (I live in California, so this is entirely plausible.) All of this is awesome, obviously, but it also makes for a bit of a challenge when it comes to packing. I can only bring so much, and I need every piece to pull its weight. If it’s not functional, it’s not coming with me.
When we’re designing our spring/summer collection at Flylow, this is a conundrum that we think about constantly. We aim for multi-use versatility and all-day utility in every piece we have in the line. A long-sleeved, hooded sunshirt should work as a spring ski touring baselayer as well as a beach-ready sunshirt. (See our women’s Moonlight Shirt or Jessi Sun Hoody and our men’s Bandit Shirt or Nash Sun Hoody for proof of concept.) Or a pair of hiking shorts should be quick drying enough to jump in a lake, too. (Case in point: The women’s Marion Short, Life Short, or Hudson Short, or the men’s Moonshine Short, Wyatt Short, Hot Tub Short, or Reynolds Short.)
That’s not to say that anything we make is equivalent to a spork. You know what I mean—decent at everything, excellent at nothing. That is not our approach. Some gear needs to be built for a highly specific purpose, like MTB shorts designed for a certain style of riding (that would be our Squad Shorts for men and women or the Goodson, Laser or Tia Shorts) or a full-coverage mountain bike pant like our Tia and Preston Pant. Our mountain bike apparel is designed hand in hand and field tested by some of the toughest athletes we know, who tell us exactly what they need, down to precision details like zipper and pocket placement and fabric blends.
We added a couple of new, must-have items to the spring/summer 2026 collection, too. Our new Benjamin Button-Up is a breezy, knit-jersey shirt meant for everyday use. Our Hot Tub Short has been such a hit, we made a Hot Tub Pant out of the same stretchy, breathable fabric. And for women, we added the new Portola Short, made from the same well-loved cotton canvas fabric as our Portola Pant. We improved and updated a few pieces as well, like fit and fabric updates on our active Jessi Shirt and everyday Haiku Tank for women.
And because we like to keep things fun and not-so-serious, we’ve redesigned some pieces that lighten up the vibe: The men’s Anderson Shirt, Cody Shirt, Wesley Shirt, and Wild Child Shirt, as well as the women’s Around Town Shirt and Anderson Shirt come in fun new prints and colorways.
So, want to know what I’m packing for this ski-bike-surf trip? Here’s my list.
- A Shaw Shirt and Anderson Shirt—which I’ll ski and bike in—and Goodson Shorts for bike rides.
- A Davis Jacket in case it gets windy.
- A Benjamin Button Up and Tiller Jogger for around camp, plus a General’s Down Jacket for chilly nights around the campfire.
- Reynolds Shorts and a Bandit Shirt for the beach or any hot springs we find along the way.
My wife sent along her packing list, too. Here’s what she’s bringing.
- Long-sleeved Dolly Shirt and Moonlight Shirt for sun protection.
- A pair of Tucker Joggers and Portola Pants for camp life and everyday wear, paired with an Emilia Tee and Around Town Shirt on top.
- A Tucker Jumpsuit because it’s easy and fun.
- A Samara Anorak for wind protection and a Betty Down Jacket for emergency warmth.
- A Tia Short and Jessi Shirt for bike rides and a pair of Hudson Shorts for trail running.
That’s pretty much it. Toss everything in a Remnant Tote and we’re good to go.
