The Real Taylor Dobyns: A Film About Redemption

The Real Taylor Dobyns: A Film About Redemption

Taylor Dobyns is a public defender for the state of Montana. She’s also a ripping skier.

In “Redemption,” a new film from Pangea Collective, we get to follow along as Dobyns goes through the ups and downs of juggling life as a competitive freeskiing athlete—and the tolls that takes on her mind and body—with her career in the legal field.

A Vermont-bred ski racer, Dobyns competed on the FWT Challenger series and graduated law school in the same year. (In case you thought your schedule was full.)

As a rookie on the Freeride World Tour in 2024, Dobyns took a bad crash and injured her knee in her first very comp in Verbier, rendering her out of commission for the rest of the season. “The tour is something I worked really hard for,” Dobyns says in the film. “It’s been a lifelong dream of mine, and something I’ve thought about for the last six months, so to have that ripped away was pretty gutting.”

Dobyns returned to the tour in 2025 with a wildcard entry and finished in 9th place. “Finally this year, we’ve seen the real Taylor Dobyns put down a run,” the FWT announcer says in her Georgia run, where she landed on the podium in third place.

This year, she’s taking time to focus on her career. Or, as she says, “Now back to getting people out of jail.”
