Winter and summer get all the attention, but what about spring? It’s the humblest of seasons, that quiet in-between period when all of your favorite activities outside are possible in a single day if you’re motivated to make it happen. Like Kate Wilson and her crew of friends. The Calgary, Alberta-based freeskier and angler recently put out a new short film called “Transitions — The Bow” that celebrates spring in the northern Rockies as a transition season full of potential.
In the film, she hunts for soft snow on her skis, then casts for trophy brown trout in her local rivers. “Both of my passions can overlap within this one short amazing window called spring,” Kate says in the film.

The film, which is presented by Flylow and Simms, stars Kate and Garrett Wilson and their friends and was shot by Renaud Furlotte and Steve Reed. For Kate, the film is all about taking advantage of the opportunities in your own backyard.
“The goal of this project was to inspire those people who overlook the shoulder season and take advantage of what we have,” she says. “In the spring, if you’re willing to go out and try, you can have an incredible experience regardless of it being the peak of the season or not. Inspiring people to get out and enjoy their backyard is the big thing.”
