April 15 is Tax Day. Not exactly a fun day. But it’s also the date each year that I arbitrarily set on my calendar to mark the beginning of mountain bike season. I tell myself: Do not ride your bike before April 15. After that, it’s game on. It’s not because I don’t like mountain biking. Quite the contrary. I love it so much that I ride almost every day all summer long. So, I set my calendar for April 15 because I love skiing, too, and I want to let the ski season run its course before I switch gears and become obsessed with the next activity. I want to fully appreciate one beautiful thing at a time. April 15 is my turning point.
Now that it’s April, I can start thinking about the warmer months. About couloir and volcano skiing in the spring and mountain biking as soon as the trails melt out. This is also when I start getting excited about the new spring line from Flylow that we’re launching. Every year, I can’t wait for you all to see the new and refined products we’re rolling out. I want to hear what you think about the gear and to see what you end up using repeatedly.
This year, we’ve gone through each and every piece in the spring 2025 line and refined fabrics and fits, upgraded to lower-impact materials, and added new sizing and colorways. We adapted some items to make them even more multi-purpose and functional. Like the Nash Shirt, which we updated to look less technical while giving you a more comfortable fit in the sleeves. The women’s Hawkins Shirt, a mountain biking mainstay for years now, got a design refresh and we adjusted the sleeve length for a more comfortable fit. The women’s Life Bib and Life Jumper also got a minor revamp with updated style lines and a more opened-up fit so it feels more like a traditional overall.
We didn’t want to add a whole bunch of new styles just for the sake of it. You don’t need a selection of 30 shorts when three or four can do everything you need. We wanted to evolve the line, not add to it. But we did have ideas for new pieces that would fill a gap or a need that we’ve been thinking about for a while now. We’ll tell you more about these new items in detail soon. But for now, expect new mountain bike shirts that feel good on and ride efficiently, thanks to soft, stretchy, and breathable fabric that dries quickly. We took our favorite pieces, like the Davis Jacket, an essential packable windbreaker, and made it in an anorak style for women and men. We wear our lightweight sun shirts so much in the summer, we added new ones, with a slightly more relaxed fit, in the Jessi Sun Hoody and Nash Sun Hoody. We found a new cozy-soft recycled terry fabric that we liked so much, we turned it into a women’s crew neck long sleeve called the Sugar Crew that you’ll want to throw on every morning.
Our goal isn’t to sell you stuff you don’t need. We want to make sure that what you have is long-lasting and useful. Like a sun shirt that works great as an early morning trail running top and doubles as a spring skiing baselayer. That’s utility we can get behind.
On April 15, I’ll be filing my taxes, then cleaning my bike, driving down the hill, and going for a ride. See you out there.
Sincerely,
Flylow Dan
