And by sausage, we mean, clothes. Here’s the nitty gritty, behind-the-scenes of how our spring 2024 collection came to be.
In the warmer months, I mountain bike every day I can. It’s my stress relief, my exercise, my nature fix, my time with friends, but it’s also where I come up with my best ideas. Those lightning bolts of inspiration don’t happen behind a computer screen. (We all know this.) They come in waves when sweat is dripping down my back and I think, this fabric feels a little heavy. Or when I try to stuff my phone into my pocket while pedaling and I realize, oh, this pocket is in the wrong spot.
For Flylow’s spring 2024 collection, we took what we know is working well, and we made those classic staples even better, improving fit and fabric. We also recognized gaps in the line—pieces we didn’t have but needed, like a shorter version of our favorite shorts or a lighter weight hooded sunshirt—and we added new products that we know will soon become essentials.
After all, if it’s not something we’re going to use regularly all season long, why bother making it? Our design philosophy from day one has always been to make gear to use it. (If it’s sitting in the back of the closet untouched, we didn’t do our job.) Our goal in spring 2024 was to round out our collection, so there’s something for everyone. We made changes on both grand and granular levels. That means introducing big, flashy new items—like a waterproof bib for foul-weather or off-season mountain biking — as well as tiny improvements that you may not see but you’ll feel if you’re paying attention. (Like adjusting a zipper or seam, tweaking a waist adjustment system for more customization, or adding a bit more stretch or breathability to a fabric.)
Since we’re obsessive mountain bikers and we know many of you are, too, we wanted to continue to fine-tune our dedicated mountain bike apparel, making sure we are hand-selecting the absolute best fabrics and materials from our most trusted suppliers and dialing in fit and function. To do that, we spent hours on the trail “field testing” (hey, it’s a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it) and we recruited a team of athletes and everyday testers to join us in these efforts and give feedback that we then incorporated into new products and product updates.
But we also know that you spend time off your bike, too. You like to trail run, fish, paddle, hike, surf, camp, travel. And you need apparel that’s versatile enough to do all of that. We never want to make generic pieces that try to do too many things but are good at none of them: like the spork of clothing. That’s not our style. Instead, we find a particular use—like a trail running tank top for women or a spring-centric flannel for men—and we make sure it’s functional to wear throughout your day.
