In a story for Ski Magazine called “These Ski Brands Make Great Summer Gear, Too,” writer Jakob Schiller included Flylow’s Dirt Glove, a mainstay mountain biking glove that’s become one of the most popular items in our summer Trail collection.
“Flylow came to be known for their ski gloves because they’re affordable, bomber, and well designed,” Schiller writes. “The same goes for the Dirt Gloves. For just $30 you get a do-everything glove with features like a leather patch over your knuckles that’ll keep you from ripping your skin off if you hit a tree or the dirt, and a velcro closure on the wrist so they fit just right. The pointer finger and thumb work with your cell phone, and the back of the thumb has a softer fabric so you can wipe snot or clean the residual beer off your upper lip back at the parking lot.”
For years now, Flylow has been making durable, affordable winter gloves inspired by the kind of pre-treated leather work gloves ski patrollers and mountain guides buy at hardware stores. Our Tough Guy Glove, for example, has been a favorite of ski bums from New Hampshire to Alaska. It’s made of long lasting, triple-baked leather that’s treated for waterproofing and will last you season after season. But it’s also just $40. So if you lose a glove on a road trip or you beat it up in the backcountry, you’re not out half of a $250 pair of gloves.
We took that ethos to design our first mountain biking glove, the Dirt Glove. They’re made from sturdy material that can grip a handlebar for hours and protect you in case of a fall. But they’re also lightweight and breathable for sweaty rides. We’ve been wearing the Dirt Glove as a super lightweight spring ski glove, too, making it a versatile, year-round essential.
And, because the Dirt Glove is just $30, they don’t break the bank. You might want to grab two pairs, just for backup.
